An impact sprinkler — also called an impulse or pulse sprinkler — is one of the most dependable tools in agricultural irrigation. A spring-loaded drive arm is struck by the water stream, rotating the head in a series of pulses that throw water in a full or part circle. Maintenance & Wear Parts

The impact sprinkler’s simplicity is its maintenance story: no gears to strip, no fine passages to clog. The wear points are the spring-loaded drive arm, the nozzle and the seals:

1. Nozzle — the highest-wear part. Sand and silt erode the orifice, and a worn nozzle shortens throw and breaks up the stream. Check throw annually; replace the nozzle when throw drops more than 10% (a minute’s work and a few dollars).
2. Drive arm spring — the arm is struck thousands of times a season. A tired spring slows rotation and thins the pattern; springs are the cheapest spare on the head.
3. Seals and washers — between the body and the riser, and at the nozzle seat. A weeping seal wastes pressure and stream energy.
4. Filter / screen — most impacts have a small inlet screen; clean it at season start and mid-season in dirty water.
